The new Panerai fake watches Luminor Marina Militare PAM05218 watch recreates a 1993 classic.
The 5218 in the name hints at what to expect...
Officine Panerai's history has been anything but smooth sailing... As the supplier of watches to the Royal Italian Navy, the brand has experienced ups and downs and several phases. From the 1910s to 1993, Panerai watches were worn exclusively by military personnel. This period was a significant one for the Italian watchmaker, as during the so-called Pre-Vendôme era, Panerai transitioned from being an exclusive supplier to the military to offering Luminor and Radiomir watches to the public. The brand was subsequently acquired by Richemont (then the Vendôme Group) in 1997. Several references bearing the 5218 reference were available at the time, including the first Luminor (5218-2021/A) and the Mare Nostrum (5218-301/A). However, there's a third watch, reference 5218, which was never offered to the public but has achieved considerable cult status... and now serves as the inspiration for the new PAM05218.
A Shock from the Past
On September 10, 1993, Panerai emerged from its secrecy into the public eye. Prior to 1993, Panerai had exclusively supplied watches to the Royal Italian Navy. But 32 years ago today, Panerai officially entered the mass market. Under the leadership of then-CEO Dino Zei, Panerai launched two watches, ushering in the brand's pre-Vendôme era. While the Panerai collection at the time was small, two models became iconic: the first Luminor 5218-2021/A and the Mare Nostrum chronograph 5218-301/A. Another iconic model, the Radiomir, didn't debut until later in 1997, when Panerai was acquired by the Vendôme Group (now Richemont), with the release of the first Vendôme special edition, the PAM00021. However, we won't dwell on that today.replica luxury watches
However, another watch was released in 1993, also bearing the reference 5218. Specifically, it was the 5218-202/A, a Luminor Marina Militare with a black case, created specifically for Italian naval personnel. Due to its private status, this particular model has become a holy grail for collectors of the pre-Vendôme era. Conceived and designed by Guenat SA Montres Valgines for the Italian Navy, the Luminor Marina Militare 5218-202/A was produced in 10 pre-production prototypes, followed by a further 90 examples, 50 of which were delivered to the Italian military, while the remaining 40 were donated or sold under the direct control of Dino Zei. In late 1994, due to overwhelming demand, a further 50 pieces were produced. This model, crafted from black PVD-coated steel, measures 44mm in diameter and features the trademark crown guard, a matte black dial, and an ETA Unitas 6497 movement.
PAM05218, a stunning re-edition
Fast forward to 2025, the 32nd anniversary of Officine Panerai's founding and opening to the public. Panerai proudly unveils the Luminor Marina Militare PAM05218. Indeed, the new reference number carries significant historical significance. It's all in the name...
The launch of this new watch coincides with the opening of the "Deep in Time" exhibition at the Florence flagship boutique, which traces the evolution of Panerai from its origins as a supplier to the Royal Italian Navy to its rise as a watchmaker in 1993. Therefore, the exhibition is the perfect setting for the re-launch of the legendary blackened Ref. 5218. The new Marina Militare PAM05218 watch is a modern interpretation of the original. Its appearance remains faithful to the original, while its structure and functions incorporate modern design.
The PAM05218 marks the first time the brand has reinterpreted a 1993 military watch with such a faithful visual style. The first thing that strikes the eye is the classic Luminor stainless steel case, measuring 44 mm in diameter and approximately 13 mm thick. However, the matte sandblasted surface is now coated with black DLC, instead of black PVD (which lacks scratch resistance). This remains true to the original, but offers enhanced hardness and abrasion resistance. The rest of the case retains classic Panerai design, including the domed sapphire crystal, the iconic crown-protecting bridge device, and 300-meter water resistance. high quality replica watches
Besides its distinctive black case aesthetic, which stands out among the other stainless steel models released in 1993, the Luminor Marina Militare PAM05218's dial also pays homage to earlier versions of the original 1993 reference 5218-202/A, including the so-called "mismatched" dial. Over time, the tritium in the hands and numerals develops varying patinas, and due to the reaction between the varnish and the tritium, the numerals become a dark orange, while the hands are closer to white or light green. This anomaly was corrected in subsequent batches.
This unique feature has been restored here, with the PAM05218 featuring a single-layer dial (eschewing the sandwich construction of the original) featuring inset numerals and baton-type hour markers filled with dark beige Super-LumiNova, while the black hands are filled with greenish-white Super-LumiNova. The Luminor Panerai and Marina Militare collections retain the same font as the 1993 editions, and the bottom of the dial remains matte black to minimize glare.
The screw-down solid stainless steel caseback is engraved with the Officine Panerai Firenze signature and the historic OP logo. Inside, the watch is powered by the brand's in-house P.6000 manual-winding movement, measuring 15.5 lignes in diameter. This movement boasts a power reserve of 3 days (72 hours), operates at a frequency of 3Hz, and, like the original, displays the time only in hours and minutes.
Inspired by the 1993 model, this new Marina Militare watch is presented on a vintage-style golden brown calfskin strap secured with a black DLC stainless steel trapezoidal buckle, stitched in the same vein as the 1993 model. A black rubber strap with its own dedicated buckle is also included. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar
