Since gearheads and petrolheads tend to share similar passions, it won’t surprise our readers that one of Max Buser’s childhood dreams was to become a car designer. Although he eventually designed watches, his fantasies about cars found their way into his creations. One of his early inspirations was the Amida Digitrend watch, a 1976 horizontal time display model that was almost surprisingly resurrected a few days ago. Often referred to as driver’s watches, this type of timepiece features a horizontal time display, allowing the driver to check the time at a glance without having to lift his wrist from the steering wheel. Inspired by the look of the Porsche 918 Spyder and Abarth 750 Zagato Double, the HM8 Mark 2 is built like a car, with the engine mounted on a waterproof titanium chassis and then the body panels added. The panels are made from lightweight yet resilient titanium and finished with CarbonMacrolon. Developed exclusively for MB&F, CarbonMacrolon is a carbon nanotube-infused polymer matrix invented by Bayer that is as strong as steel but eight times lighter. The aerodynamic HM8 Mark 2 case is made of grade 5 titanium with a blue CarbonMacrolon panel and is 47mm long, 41.5mm wide and 19mm high at the display end of the case.
