Whether in an aircraft cockpit or on a diver’s wrist, a core challenge for any watchmaking instrument has always been a display that glows in the dark to provide optimal readability. Since the 1930s, various luminescent materials have been used to coat the hands, numerals and indexes of timepieces made by professionals, first and foremost in the military sector - whether pilots or combat divers. While every watch in the Bell & Ross collection can tell the time even in the dark, some models go even further. This is the case with the brand's LUM pieces, which directly reference the luminous effect.
Bell & Ross launched the LUM collection in 2017 with the BR 03-92 HOROLUM, followed a year later by the BR 03-92 NIGHTLUM, both models featuring outstanding luminous effects on the numerals, hour markers and hands. For the construction of this new version of the BR-X5, lightness begins with the multi-part case, which alternates between LM3D and grade 2 micro-blasted black DLC titanium in its multi-layered components.
