Lightweight materials create a sense of lightness from the inside out - OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Dark Gray
Stainless steel, gold, and platinum have always been traditional watchmaking materials. However, as watchmaking technology becomes more sophisticated and consumers' demands for innovation increase, many brands are turning to special materials. Among them, OMEGA is a master of material research and development worth mentioning. It has launched many unique and novel material watches over the years. This year, it also launched the new Seamaster Planet Ocean Dark Grey. The watch uses lightweight materials from the inside to the outside to achieve the ultimate of lightness.
The 45.5mm diameter case is made of gray silicon nitride ceramic, which is twice lighter than zirconia ceramic. It is particularly light on the wrist and strong and durable. This is also the first time that OMEGA has used silicon nitride on a large scale to make a watch. The total weight of the new model is 107g, while the Black Ceramic of the same series is about 138g, which shows the results of the brand's technological development and material application.
The helium escape valve and the bezel with a silicon nitride inner ring are cast from sandblasted grade 5 titanium. This grade of titanium is a commonly used material in the space field. Its lightweight characteristics will not significantly increase the weight of the watch. The dark gray tone completes the overall design of the watch, and the waterproof depth is also up to 600 meters.
The dial, strap folding buckle, carbon gray hands and hour markers are made of contrasting grade 5 titanium. The dial is embellished with eye-catching orange decorative details. The date display window is located at 3 o'clock, and there is a two-place time display. The hands and scales are treated with white luminous coating to ensure that the time can be clearly displayed in dark environments.
In addition to the light exterior, the design theme of the movement is also consistent. The black ceramic grade 5 titanium main board and bridge plates continue the overall tone and light feel of the watch. The 8906 Ti self-winding movement is certified by METAS, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology, and can resist magnetism up to 15,000 Gauss and has a power reserve of 60 hours. The back of the case uses NAIAD LOCK technology, is equipped with a double-sided anti-reflective transparent bottom cover, and is decorated with chromium nitride markings.
